A truly local, West Coast food.
The spot prawn harvest occurs for 5-6 weeks in May and June. Government scientific analysis has proven that this harvest timing is optimal to avoid mating season, egg extrusion season and moulting (changing of shells) season. The low impact fishery is strictly regulated to minimize bycatch and ensure healthy stocks remain after the fishery to support sustainable harvests in the future. B.C. spot prawns are listed as a “green” choice by Ocean Wise and are one of David Suzuki's top 10 sustainable seafood picks.
Graham and his crew catch spot prawns on the spectacular Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. Daily, 300 baited traps are set at depths varying from 180 to 480 feet deep from our fishing vessel Quick Pick. Trap by trap, our catch of spot prawns are appropriately sized and immediately placed into a refrigerated sea water tank system with conditions similar to that of their natural environment.
Delivered daily to Madeira Park the prawns are offloaded and flash frozen (without sulphites) in one pound packages by the crew of the Quick Pick. There are approximately 20-35 prawns per pound.
Our daily practices maximize freshness and ensures the highest quality of this organic and protein rich delicacy is passed on to our customers.
